AfterGlow Chorus is an elite, tuition-free chamber ensemble in Oakland, CA, specializing in high-impact choral music across classical, gospel, and soul genres. We are moving quickly to assemble our Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass (SATB) voices for the upcoming Summer '26 program, "The Gift of Love." If you are a soulful vocalist in the San Francisco Bay Area who craves a high-level musical challenge and a deep sense of purpose, we invite you to lend your voice to our Oakland and East Bay musical community.

The Musical Challenge: Virtuosic Summer Repertoire

This season, we are diving deep into the architecture of the human heart with a diverse program of choral excellence. Our repertoire is designed for versatile musicians and includes:

  • Contemporary & Classical: Ubi Caritas (Maurice Duruflé), Daemon Irrepit Callidus (György Orbán), and Angele Dei (Susan LaBarr).

  • Powerful Spirituals: Wade in the Water (arr. Stacey Gibbs) and Give Me Jesus (arr. Moses Hogan).

  • Gospel, Jazz & Soul: Healing (Richard Smallwood), Pure Imagination (arr. Greg Murai), and Sam Cooke’s Bring It on Home to Me.

A Rehearsal Model for Independent Musicians

We utilize a "High Intensity. High Excellence." rehearsal model. We provide you with the music in advance so you can study independently. We then come together for eight intensive rehearsals to focus on blend, artistry, and impact.

  • Tuition-Free Choir in Oakland: We are committed to economic inclusivity—talent and dedication are the only requirements for entry. There are zero dues or fees to participate.

  • Rehearsal Location: First Presbyterian Church of Oakland, located in the vibrant Uptown neighborhood. Our rehearsal space is easily accessible by BART and offers free parking.

The Summer '26 Schedule & Commitment

We seek versatile Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass voices—musicians with a great ear for blend and a passion for delivering high-impact choral music. Because our schedule is accelerated, all rehearsal and concert dates are mandatory.

Mark your calendars for this summer’s intensive cycle:

  • 8 Intensive Rehearsals: Monday and Wednesday nights (7:00 PM – 9:30 PM) from July 13th through August 5th.

  • Dress Rehearsal: Saturday, August 8th (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM).

  • Concert #1: Sunday, August 9th (4:00 PM).

  • Concert #2: Saturday, August 15th (8:00 PM).

We are moving fast to finalize our roster for July. If you're ready to commit to a high standard of artistry and a powerful summer of music, we invite you to apply today.
