A moving performance from Oakland’s premier Bay Area choir
Before the holidays arrive, take a moment to revisit one of AfterGlow Chorus’s most moving performances: “Fear Not” by Daniel Schreiner, filmed live at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Oakland during our August 2025 concert, Healing & Heart.

This luminous piece was performed in honor of patients and their caregivers — especially the loving families and friends who walk beside them. With its quiet courage and tender harmonies, Fear Not captures what we hold most dear in both music and in life: compassion, courage, and connection.
A Glimpse into Healing & Heart
Healing & Heart was AfterGlow’s 2025 summer concert, a program dedicated to honoring the unseen strength of caregivers and the beauty of community support. Performed at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church near Lake Merritt in Oakland, the concert featured an inspiring blend of contemporary and classical choral works — from Michael John Trotta’s “Lux Aeterna” to Bill Withers’s “Lean on Me” — unified by themes of love, loss, and renewal.
“Fear Not” stood at the emotional center of that evening: a moment when time seemed to pause, the audience hushed, and the power of collective sound became something sacred.
It’s this kind of performance that defines AfterGlow Chorus — not just artistry for its own sake, but music with meaning.
The Heart Behind Every AfterGlow Concert
In each season, AfterGlow seeks to create concerts that are more than a series of songs. Every performance tells a story — about courage, hope, and the shared humanity that binds us together.
The Healing & Heart concert celebrated the idea that even in moments of struggle, there is beauty, faith, and light. Fear Not embodies that message perfectly: an invitation to breathe, listen, and reflect, especially as we head into the busy holiday season.
Our audience members described it best:
“You could feel the room exhale together — it was like the music was holding us.”
“AfterGlow’s sound fills you with calm. It’s rare to experience that kind of connection in a concert.”
These responses remind us why we sing — and why we can’t wait to share our next concert with you this December: A Not So Silent Night.
Looking Ahead: A Not So Silent Night
While Fear Not invites quiet reflection, our upcoming holiday concert, A Not So Silent Night, bursts with energy and joy. It’s a celebration of light, rhythm, and renewal — blending carols, spirituals, and choral masterworks performed with AfterGlow’s signature depth and artistry.

Why “Fear Not” Still Matters
As the year draws to a close, Fear Not reminds us of what music can do — how it speaks when words fall short, how it brings light where there is uncertainty, and how it creates space for stillness amid the noise.
Take a few quiet minutes to watch, breathe, and let the music remind you: even in the busiest season, there is time to feel, to listen, and to connect.
