While the AfterGlow Chorus singers are eagerly preparing their music, the musical framework for our Spring 2026 season is already set.
Honoring Prince on the 10th anniversary of his passing requires a program that reaches beyond a simple retrospective. To truly celebrate his legacy, we have put together a series of performances that reflect his fearless musical range—bridging the gap between contemporary pop genius and the deep, sophisticated traditions of Gospel and Classical music.
Excellence Without Borders
Prince famously refused to be contained by a single style, and "Purple Reign" follows that same adventurous spirit. We’ve brought together a repertoire that demands both rhythmic precision and immense vocal soul:
The Prince Evolution: Sophisticated arrangements of hits like “7,” “When Doves Cry,” and “Purple Rain” that lean into the rich, complex vocal layers for which he was known.
The Mastery of Richard Smallwood: We are honored to feature "Total Praise," a cornerstone of American music that showcases Smallwood’s rare ability to marry Gospel energy with rigorous classical structure.
Choral Virtuosity: From the roof-raising drive of Moses Hogan’s “My Soul's Been Anchored in the Lord” to the elegance of Duke Ellington, this program celebrates a lineage of music that is as technically demanding as it is deeply moving.
A 10th Anniversary Landmark in Oakland
As we prepare to bring these arrangements to the stunning acoustics of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, we invite you to join us for a performance that marks a significant cultural moment for the Bay Area. This is a program for those who appreciate vocal excellence and the enduring impact of a true musical icon.
