The Aeolians Choir in San Francisco

An amazing story took place this weekend here in the San Francisco Bay Area. The renowned choir The Aeolians of Oakwood University in Alabama escaped near-death after one of their charter buses was involved with a multi-vehicle accident this weekend near San Francisco Airport and exploded into flames. Unfortunately, the driver of one of the other vehicles was killed in this tragic accident.

The Aeolians were in town to perform in San Francisco. All of their singers are students who have been well-trained and who are also extremely passionate about their chorus. Many students of the choir lost their clothing and luggage in the fire that consumed their bus.

In an incredible act of generosity, a couple from the East Bay in Berkeley stepped up immediately and provided clothing and other resources to the students so that they could perform the following night as planned. It turns out that the couple are both alums of the school and one of them had also performed years ago in the chorus.

We’ve been moved by the incredible determination and spirit of the choir. The Aeolians have been moving audiences for years around the world with their passion and heartfelt performances. For example, they won a Gold Medal a few years ago at the prestigious World Choir Games.

In fact, we were so inspired a long time ago by their powerful rendition of the gospel classic “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” that we’ve also programmed it for our upcoming concert this summer in August in Oakland.

Please take a look for yourself and see if your emotions aren’t stirred up as well by their heartfelt performance!
