There is a unique thrill that comes from singing at the absolute peak of your vocal capability—where technical precision meets pure, unbridled heart.

As of mid-May, our roster for the Summer 2026 season is building rapidly. If you crave a fast-paced, high-IQ environment where your voice is matched by the caliber of those standing next to you, AfterGlow Chorus invites you to secure your space in the room.

The AfterGlow Energy in Action

What does it actually feel like to stand in our ranks? Our upcoming summer program, "The Gift of Love," will demand the exact vocal stamina, crisp rhythmic execution, and massive wall of sound featured in this standout performance from our recent winter cycle.

Listen to the driving tempo, the flawless tuning of the unaccompanied voices, and the explosive energy of the ensemble performing "Glory, Glory, Glory to the Newborn King," composed and arranged by the great Moses Hogan:

Why Advanced Bay Area Singers Choose AfterGlow

Auditions are actively being scheduled through June 13th and beyond. Experienced vocalists from across the East Bay and San Francisco are joining this specific cycle for three distinct reasons:

  • ⚡ An Accelerated Artistic Cycle: We completely bypass basic note-pounding. We distribute scores one month in advance for independent mastery, allowing our intensive 4-week rehearsal schedule in July to focus entirely on advanced artistry, dynamic blend, and emotional depth.

  • 🎓 A Rare Vocal Caliber: You will sing alongside 40 technically proficient vocalists. Our collaborative roster brings together passionate musicians with deep collegiate choral experience and advanced degrees in voice, allowing us to operate at a conservatory-level pace from the very first downbeat.

  • ❤️ A Purpose-Driven Musical Mission: "The Gift of Love" is a season built as a healing musical offering. Our summer performances are intentionally designed to bring profound comfort and emotional grace to patients, caregivers, and community members navigating loss or hardship in Oakland.

At a Glance: The Summer '26 Cycle

  • The Voice Needs: Seeking versatile, SATB singers with choral and / or collegiate a cappella experience (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass).

  • The Cost: Zero Tuition / Zero Fees. (We invest in talent, not dues).

  • The Location: Beautiful St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at Lake Merritt, Oakland. (An easy walk from 19th St. Oakland BART—a seamless 15-minute commute for our San Francisco members; free parking on site).

  • The Schedule: 8 Intensive sessions (Mon/Wed) starting July 13. Concerts on Sunday, August 9 and Sunday, August 16.

The Score: A Masterclass in Vocal Versatility

Delivering this sanctuary of sound dares our singers to pivot seamlessly across completely distinct musical landscapes:

  • Luminous Classical Textures: Moving from the lush architecture of Maurice Duruflé (Ubi Caritas) and Susan LaBarr (Angele Dei) to the fierce, high-octane velocity of Ernani Aguiar (Salmo 150), Thomas LaVoy (Alleluia), and György Orbán (Daemon Irrepit Callidus).

  • Deep-Rooted Spirituals: Grounding the room in the profound emotional weight of masterworks by Nathaniel Dett (O Holy Lord), Ysayë Barnwell (Wanna Die Easy When I Die), and the legendary spiritual arrangements of Moses Hogan (I Want Jesus to Walk with Me, Give Me Jesus).

  • Raw Gospel Fire & Soul: Unleashing uninhibited heart with the soaring power of Richard Smallwood (Healing), Donald Vails (The Storm Is Passing Over), Nathan Carter (If I Can Help Somebody), and the gritty groove of Sam Cooke (Bring It on Home to Me).

  • Sophisticated Vocal Jazz: Shifting color entirely into the intricate, tight harmonies of Greg Murai (Pure Imagination).
