Following the high-energy success of our Purple Reign tribute, the choir is now turning its focus toward a summer of technical excellence and transformative sound. We are officially opening singer auditions for our Summer '26 program: "The Gift of Love."
A Sanctuary of Sound
This isn't just a concert—it's a musical mission. The Gift of Love is a deep dive into the architecture of the human heart. We are performing a healing, musical offering designed to be a "sanctuary of sound," providing profound comfort and a vocal embrace for those navigating loss, caregiving, or the need for a quiet moment of grace.
The Musical Challenge: Summer Repertoire
Our program is built for singers who love to dive deep into complex, rewarding literature. This cycle features a diverse range of virtuosic works:
Contemporary & Classical: Ubi Caritas (Duruflé), Daemon Irrepit Callidus (Orbán), Salmo 150 (Aguiar), Angele Dei (Susan LaBarr), and When You Are Old (Hans Bridger Heruth).
Powerful Spirituals: Wade in the Water (arr. Stacey Gibbs), Give Me Jesus (arr. Moses Hogan), and Wanna Die Easy (arr. Ysayë Barnwell).
Gospel, Jazz & Soul: Healing (Richard Smallwood), If I Can Help Somebody (arr. Nathan Carter), Pure Imagination (arr. Greg Murai), and Sam Cooke’s classic Bring It on Home to Me.
Experience the AfterGlow Sound
To hear the blend and emotional impact we bring to our "sanctuary of sound," watch the choir perform "A Silent Night" from our December 2025 holiday season. This performance highlights the intimacy and vocal grace we are looking for in our new summer members:
The AfterGlow Rehearsal Model: "High Intensity. High Excellence."
Unlike most choirs, AfterGlow rehearses in intensive, 4-week periods right before each concert. This model appeals to high-caliber singers who can study and learn music independently prior to our focused rehearsals.
Important Dates (All Mandatory):
Rehearsals: Mondays and Wednesdays (7:00 PM – 9:30 PM) starting July 13th.
Dress Rehearsal: Saturday, August 8th.
Concerts: Sunday, August 9th (4:00 PM) and Saturday, August 15th (8:00 PM) or Sunday, August 16th (4:00 PM).
Location: St. Paul's Episcopal Church Oakland (Lake Merritt neighborhood).
How to Apply
We are an advanced chamber choir of over 40 highly skilled singers. We offer zero tuition and zero fees to ensure we remain economically inclusive for the best talent in the Bay Area.
The audition is straightforward: prepare any a cappella song of your choosing, followed by vocalizing and sight-singing.
