As we move through the heart of January, the search for the final voices of our Spring 2026 season continues. AfterGlow Chorus is currently auditioning experienced singers from across the East Bay—from Oakland and Berkeley to San Francisco—who are looking for a high-caliber choir to call home.
Our upcoming season, "Purple Reign," is more than just a tribute to the music of Prince; it is an exploration of technical precision and stylistic versatility that defines our chamber choir.
A High-Level Environment for Choral Music
What sets AfterGlow apart is our commitment to a sophisticated, fast-paced rehearsal environment. Our chorus gathers in Uptown Oakland at the First Presbyterian Church of Oakland—a venue conveniently located just blocks from the 19th St. BART station, making it easily accessible for vocalists across the San Francisco Bay Area.
Because our vocalists commit to independent preparation, our time together is spent on artistry rather than note-learning. We dive straight into the nuances of our repertoire: from the intricate harmonies of our a cappella Prince arrangements to the soaring, accompanied power of Richard Smallwood’s "Total Praise." Our singers master everything from the sophisticated jazz structures of Duke Ellington to the ethereal precision required for contemporary choral masters like Jake Runestad, Adolphus Hailstork, and Betty Jackson King.

There is a unique challenge and reward in performing a program that spans over a hundred years of musical evolution. From the early 20th-century roots of American jazz to the 1980s soul of Prince and the innovative choral music of the 2020s, this season is designed for the versatile musician.
This Spring, our chamber choir will bring that expansive energy to the stunning acoustics of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Oakland, located in the Lake Merritt neighborhood.
