Miss the visceral thrill of high-stakes collegiate a cappella or contemporary ensembles? Explore the fast-paced summer cycle actively auditioning in Oakland.
"The energy in the room is immediate. When you gather forty people who all arrive with the notes completely locked in their muscle memory, you don't waste time learning parts. You start making art from the very first downbeat." — AfterGlow Chorus Vocalist
If you are an experienced singer balancing a demanding career, family, and life in the Bay Area, finding the right musical outlet can feel like an uphill battle.
Many lifelong "choir kids" face the same frustrating dilemma as adults. You deeply miss the visceral, high-stakes electricity of your collegiate chamber ensemble, elite a cappella group, or sharp contemporary choir. You crave that deep, rhythmic lock where a room full of musical peers breathes and moves as a single organism. But between long community choir seasons that stretch on for six months and casual drop-in sings that leave you wanting more rigor, it’s hard to find a space that respects both your talent and your calendar.
AfterGlow Chorus was built specifically to break that mold. We design high-octane, condensed summer projects that offer elite musical rewards and profound vocal versatility without overtaking your life.
Our primary audition window for the Summer 2026 cycle is closing fast. If you are ready to challenge your vocal capabilities with a community of true musical peers, now is the time to step forward.

What does it sound like when independent musical peers unite? Listen to the rich, warm sound and exceptional vocal precision of our ensemble performing R. Nathaniel Dett’s breathtaking masterwork "Ave Maria" live in concert:
The 4-Week Sprint: Advanced Bay Area Rehearsals
We prioritize artistic precision, stylistic integrity, and structural efficiency. Performing primarily as an unaccompanied ensemble, we receive our sheet music a full month in advance and prepare independently, completely eliminating basic note-pounding from our rehearsal schedule.
Our intensive July / August rehearsal sequence moves at a thrilling, rapid pace. Over just 8 concentrated sessions at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oakland, we focus entirely on the nuances that turn a good performance into an unforgettable one: sculpting a resonant a cappella blend, balancing section colors, and locking in authentic, genre-specific vocal production.
It is a demanding model, but for a true vocal purist, the fast-paced momentum of a premier unaccompanied ensemble is incredibly addictive.
The Repertoire: High Artistic Standards, Deep Human Purpose
Our upcoming program, "The Gift of Love," isn't a surface-level run-through of standard choral charts. It is a multi-genre exploration designed to be a literal sanctuary of sound—a musical offering providing comfort and a "vocal embrace" for caregivers, patients, and those navigating loss in our San Francisco Bay Area community.
To deliver that comfort with real power, we dare our singers to master an extraordinary stylistic spectrum with absolute musical integrity:
Pristine Classical & Contemporary A Cappella: Navigating the floating architectures and complex, luminous layers of Maurice Duruflé (Ubi Caritas), Susan LaBarr (Angele Dei), and György Orbán (Daemon Irrepit Callidus).
The Depth of the Choral African American Spiritual: Leaning into the profound historical gravity and uninhibited vocal power of masterworks by Moses Hogan (Give Me Jesus), Stacey Gibbs (Wade in the Water), and Ysayë Barnwell (Wanna Die Easy When I Die).
Raw Gospel Fire & Power: Unleashing authentic, soaring tone and complex vocal harmonies through the masterfully crafted scores of Richard Smallwood (Healing), Donald Vails (The Storm Is Passing Over), and Nathan Carter (If I Can Help Somebody).
Sophisticated Jazz & Soulful R&B: Crafting the razor-thin, tight jazz textures and secular grooves of Greg Murai (Pure Imagination) and Sam Cooke (Bring It on Home to Me).
