1st Concert In 5 Days!

Five days! Only five days remain until AfterGlow Chorus will be performing the first of two very special, memorial concerts in Oakland, CA called, "Pandemic & Racism: What's Going On."

These concerts will honor the lives and victims lost to both the pandemic and racism in the past two years. We will also be honoring the 50th anniversary of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On." In the words of Savannah Leaf, director of the video above: "The point is that this is a historic song for an important moment in history, and what’s beautiful is that it’s message is timeless and universal. It’s about human emotions, human relationships, and a coming together. My hope is that our music video will remind people to continue asking the question Marvin Gaye asked in 1971.” The two concerts are on Sunday, August 7th (at First Presbyterian Church in Oakland) and Sunday, August 14th (at Church of All Faiths in Oakland) at 4 pm. Here are just a few of the emotional songs of both grieving and healing:

  • Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" (arranged by AfterGlow alum Max Addae)

  • "Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen" from the Brahms Requiem

  • "Stand Up" by Cynthia Erivo from the movie "Harriet"

  • A moving arrangement by the incredible Nolan Williams, Jr. of "Done Made My Vow" (African-American spiritual)

  • Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You"

  • The classic masterpiece "Total Praise" by Richard Smallwood

  • Incredible soul / jazz singer Darrell Edwards will also be performing as our special Guest Artist

You won't want to miss these memorable events!
